Fire breaks out at BPCL plant at Chembur, Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 08: A fire broke out around 3 pm at the Bharat Petroleum refinery at Chembur around 3 pm on Wednesday, 8 Aug. Officials said that it started with loud explosions from the refinery’s hydrogen tank which was the cause of the fire. The fire is being fought by the refinery’s fire fighting team. Around 43 persons are reported injured. They have been moved to the nearby hospital for treatment.

The explosion was so loud that it could be heard as far away as Deonar. A worker of the company remarked that he had heard a ‘huge, unbearable’ sound.

Seven fire engines and two foam tenders have been put to work to douse the fire.
