Bhopal, Nov 5: Madhya Pradesh’s ruling Congress staged a state-wide agitation on Monday against the Centre for not yet disbursing Rs 6,621 crore sought as relief for cultivators plus others affected by excessive precipitation and consequent floods, party sources said.

Congress bigwigs, office-bearers and legislators led the protests at all district headquarters where memoranda addressed to the President were handed over to collectors. Ministers also reached the respective districts under their charge and conveyed their accusations through media.

The party claimed in a release that 284 tehsils across 39 of 52 districts were hit by inclement weather that ruined crops over 60 lakh hectares translating into a combined loss of Rs 16,270 cr. Besides, approximately 1.20 lakh dwellings, more than 11,000 km of roads and 1,000 bridges or culverts require repair. In excess of 600 lives were lost. (UNI)
