Bhopal, Aug 27 : River and nullahs continue to be in spate in Madhya Pradesh owing to release of excess water from reservoirs through opening of many dams’ sluice gates even as life was thrown off gear by heavy precipitation at numerous places during the past 24 hours. Trains were plying behind schedule owing to water-logging of tracks last night at Ratlam Station. The bus stand and low-lying settlements in that district headquarters were flooded as 134.6 mm rainfall was recorded.
The situation was similar in Jhabua and Alirajpur districts. The Shivna River is overflowing in Mandsaur where water entered the sanctum sanctorum of the renowned Pashupatinath shrine. The Gandhisagar reservoir reached full-tank level and the dam’s three gates were opened to drain fluid into the Chambal. The Narmada’s level is rising owing to release from the Tawa Dam. UNI
