Do not pay heed to rumours about child-lifters: MP Police

Agency News

Bhopal, July 28 : With the avowed objective of maintaining communal harmony plus upholding law and order, the Madhya Pradesh Police has appealed to citizens to disregard social media canards circulating for the past few days regarding child-trafficking gangs and foreign refugees of a certain community kidnapping minors.

“Different messages are being clubbed and fake posts created,” Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Kailash Makwana said. For instance, in Dewas District’s Khargone area thieves were collared and in Ratlam an audio made of confined piglets. The picture and sounds were combined to give an impression of a child-lifters’ gang being nabbed. In Ratlam District’s Dhodhar area, 15 boys (customers) and eight Banchada girls were caught during law-enforcement action against the flesh trade. The photograph was shared as if the police rescued kidnapped persons.

“I cross checked both from the superintendent and countered on the groups in question,” the Indian Police Service officer averred.  Rumour-triggered assaults on innocents were also reported in some places.“Someday, it may escalate to lynching and become a law and order issue. So, please be wary of social media. Awareness via print and electronic journalism should be ensured besides timely countering of hearsay,” Mr Makwana said. (UNI)
