Bhopal, June 9: The party’s debacle in the 17th general election, strengthening of the organisation and the ‘way ahead’ were among a multitude of issues discussed at Madhya Pradesh’s ruling Congress’ Core Committee meeting held on Saturday at Chief Minister and party state President Kamal Nath’s residence, Congress sources said.
It was the maiden gathering of its kind subsequent to the Lok Sabha polls. Those present included party General Secretary and Madhya Pradesh In-charge Dipak Babaria, Rajya Sabha Member and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh and former central ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kantilal Bhuria and Arun Yadav.
In the recent general election, the Congress emerged victorious only in Chhindwara, which is one of the state’s 29 constituencies.
“It is imperative to enhance our access to the populace. The Bharatiya Janata Party is bamboozling the masses and must be exposed – that is the foremost priority,” Scindia later told the press but dodged a query regarding any change in the state organisation.
