Burhanpur, MP, May 16 : This district witnessed a political tug of war on Thursday as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) predecessor Shivraj Singh Chouhan fired broadsides at each other over agrarian debt remission.
“During BJP tenure, the state had the dubious distinction of being numero uno in cultivators’ suicides, unemployment and atrocities against women. It has only been 127 days since the Congress came to power and the Model Code of Conduct became effective 76 days after we assumed the reins. However, within that limited period farm loans were written off and beneficiaries include a former BJP chief minister’s kin,” Mr Nath averred while addressing an election rally in Khaknar 42 km from here and within Khandwa parliamentary constituency.
Countering the Chief Minister’s words, Mr Chouhan said – during his speech at a public meeting in Bijouri 55 km distant from here – that documents pertaining to his relatives are not genuine. (UNI)
