A district Court in Madhya Pradesh on February 4 issued a death warrant against a school teacher convicted of raping a four year old student. The rapist teacher, Mahendra Singh Gond will be hanged till death on March 2. It will be the first execution of a child rapist since the new law came into force.
It was on June 30 last year that Gond had kidnapped and raped the girl. It was an incident that shocked the nation and the police were quick to act and nab the culprit. Gond was arrested within a few hours. He had dumped the girl in a nearby jungle assuming that she was dead .However the girl survived and was found by the parents in a pathetic condition after the brutal act. The state government was prompt in swinging into action and the victim was airlifted for treatment to AIIMS, Delhi. She underwent surgery to have her intestines realigned. The survivor’s statement was crucial in nailing the criminal.
Last year on September 19 a Sessions Court had sentenced Gond to capital punishment. On January 25 Madhya Pradesh High Court considering the case as ‘rarest of rare’ confirmed death penalty.
The Superintendent of Jabalpur Central Jail has confirmed that Gond will be hanged at 5 am on March 2, 2019.
