MP CM slams Cong for harping on EVMs

Agency News

Bhopal, Dec 5: Even as December 11 – counting day – approaches, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday accused the principal-opposition Congress of exerting undue pressure on the Election Commission vis-a-vis electronic voting machines (EVMs).

“The devices cannot be tampered with and it is incorrect to question the fairness of the poll process. Apprehensive of an electoral debacle, the Congress is heaping blame on the EVMs and I consider that unfair. That party is attempting to mock the polls. We must repose faith in the Commission,” Mr Chouhan told the press here.

In fact, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party candidates experienced greater pressure from the Commission; he said and shared his experience of being disallowed from attending the funeral of a friend who passed away in Vidisha on November 27, a day before single-phase voting across 230 assembly constituencies.

Defending Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said that the confab discussed routine matters regarding affairs of state. The Congress is up in arms against the Chouhan dispensation’s decision to hold such a meeting days before assembly poll results are to be declared. (UNI)
