Jabalpur, MP, Aug 08: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has upheld the death penalty handed down to one person awarded by a lower court on the charge of raping a four-year-old girl and killing her.
A division bench of Chief Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice VK Shukla, while delivering the verdict yesterday, maintained the punishment given to Vinod Choudha (22). The Shahdol District and Sessions Court had sent the matter to the High Court for confirmation of punishment.
According to prosecution, Vinod lured the girl on the pretext of providing her chocolate and biscuits on March 13, 2017, in Shahdol's Ward No 18, sexually assaulted her and strangulated her to death.
Confirming the capital punishment, the High Court observed that such criminals are dangerous for humanity and not worthy of mercy, and death penalty is appropriate punishment for them. (UNI)
