kerala, June 6, 2020 : Twenty two Keralites stranded in Thailand since March because of lockdown following the Covid outbreak, were brought home in a special flight on Friday.
They were among the 160 stranded Indians Thailand who were flown to Chennai by Air India as part of Government India’s Vande Bharat mission.
Officials said the Chennai airport handled 1,226 passengers. Of these 594 were foreigners who were stranded in south India. They were flown back to Sydney, Melbourne, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.
Similarly, 633 stranded Indian nationals were brought in four special flights. Of these,160 were from Thailand, 286 from Dammam, Saudi Arabia and 177 from Doha, Qatar.
The 22 Keralites were sent by bus to Palakkad after the Kerala Government was informed. They will be kept in isolation there.
The other Indians who returned from abroad were quarantined at the airport and in institutional centres.
