Kochi, May 16 : Air India flight from Dubai with 181 passengers landed at the International Airport here on Saturday evening in the second phase of Vande Bharat evacuation mission. The flight had 75 pregnant women and 35 senior citizens of Kerala stranded in foreign soil, airport sources said. Two more special flights from Abu Dhabi to Thiruvananthapuram and to Kozhikode were expected to reach late night. Air India and Air India Express completed Phase one of Mission Vande Bharat, across 12 countries, sources further said.
The phase 2 of the Mission with AI and AI Express began with three flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This phase would cover 40 countries including services from India to the rest of the world. Over 32,000 stranded Indians would be brought back home from 21 countries under the second phase of the government's mega evacuation mission from May 16 to 22. Out of the 149 flights to India, 31 would land in Kerala. Four flights were expected to arrive in Kerala on Sunday.
Two flights would land in Cochin Airport from Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Sunday evening. The government launched the Vande Bharat Mission on May seven to evacuate Indians stranded in various countries due to coronavirus-related restrictions, they added. (UNI)
