Kottayam, May 6 : Kottayam district administration has arranged 234 COVID-19 isolation centres for people who arrive from abroad and other Indian states. As per estimates, 13,950 people from abroad and 6200 persons from other states have completed registration formalities to return to the district. The number is likely to go up, official sources said on Wednesday.
Isolation centres were arranged in buildings, hotels, homestays, lodges and college hostels, besides accommodation centres of religious establishments and government-owned buildings. The authorities have inspected these buildings to ensure that they are fit for stay.
The administration also plans to open quarantine units at unoccupied houses to offer a common accommodation facility for returning families. Besides charge officers for each centre, Deputy Tahsildars have been entrusted with coordinating the operation of these isolation centres at taluk level. Meanwhile, about 150 persons from the state returned to their hometown through Kumily check-post till Tuesday. They got stranded in other states due to the lockdown.
