Kerala govt now decides to not implement NPR

After posing firmly against Citizenship Amendment Act, Kerala Government has decided not to implement National Population Register (NPR).

The Kerala cabinet in a meeting on Monday has decided not to implement NPR in the state. The government said the Census Registrar General will be informed about the decision and that Census will be done as per norms.

The Kerala General Administration Department had last week directed all officials to ensure that the National Population Register (NPR) is not mentioned while sending communications on Census 2021. The note to the district collectors was sent following social media speculations over the implementation of NPR in Kerala.

Earlier, Congress leaders in Kerala had alleged that Pinarayi government in Kerala secretly preparing for NPR.
