Kottayam, Dec 1 : The Election Commission has taken a stance favouring PJ Joseph faction of Kerala Congress regarding the symbol of the party.
The Commission said it would grant the symbol--two leaves, to the candidate suggested by Joseph in the by-election to Poovathilappu ward in Kottayam district. The EC interfered in the matter following the dispute by Jose K Mani faction and Joseph.
This action by the commission only shows which group will be the future custodian of the party symbol.
A major relief for Mani faction is that only a candidate from the Mani group can avail the support of Congress party in the election as per their understanding with the Congress. The Election Commission also sent a letter in this regard to the returning officer as well. (UNI)
