LDF candidate wins Thrikkakara Municipality election

Agency News

Kochi, Nov 6 : Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate won the Thrikkakara Municipality council election after one of the votes polled by a United Democratic Front (UDF) Councillor was annulled here on Wednesday.

In the Municipality where both parties had an equal number of members, LDF received 21 votes while UDF got 20. Initially there were 43 members in the municipality council. One among them Sheela Charu left the Congress and became the Chairperson. The High Court later disqualified her which resulted in the election. Her right to vote also withdrawn. This resulted in LDF and UDF having the same number of councillors at 21 each. Both fronts were assured of their own votes. However, the vote polled by E K Majeeb of UDF was annulled.

UDF alleged that Majeeb cheated them after accepting money. As LDF received 21 votes their councillor from division 21- Usha Praveen, was elected as the new Chairperson.

Deputy Collector Padmakumar was the presiding officer for the election. (UNI)
