Kottayam, Nov 1 : The Meenachil grama panchayat here has became Haritha Gramam (green village) on Kerala Piravi Day on Friday.
The panchayat is implementing various projects under the Haritha Keralam Mission including effective waste disposal and plastic management, Panchayat authorities said.
Panchayat Secretary M Suseel said the Panchayat has already initiated measures to collect bio-degradable waste from houses and turn it to organic manure for vegetable and other cultivation.
The Haritha Karma Sena members have been tasked to collect plastic from households which will be handed over to Clean Kerala company.
Integrated Rural Technology Centre, an organisation at Mundur in Palakkad district will provide technical assistance for the panchayat in this regard.
A meeting of the heads of various schools, banks and offices in the panchayat will soon be convened as part of implementing the green protocol.
Steps are in place for cleaning and reviving the major streams in the panchayat which had also commenced a house visit programme as part of the initiative.
Haritha Karma Sena members, Kudumbashree workers and school students participated in the programme. (UNI)
