Kerala offers compensation in land acquisition for waterway project

Kannur, Oct 25 : Kerala Minister for Ports Ramachandran Kadannappally on Friday said the state government has offered an excellent compensation package for those who would lose their homes and property while acquiring land for the Mahe-Valapattanam waterways.

The acquisition of land is for constructing canals to link the rivers as part of the Kovalam-Kasargod waterway project.

In the first phase canal will be constructed in 25 km stretch including 9.2 km from Mahe river to Eranjholi river, in the second phase 850-metre-long canal will construct from Eranjholi river to Dharmadam river and in the third phase canal will be built from Ancharakandy river to Valapattanam river, Mr Ramachandran said during a meeting at the Collectors Chamber here.

Kannur Corporation Mayor Suma Balakrishnan and CIAL General Manager Jose Thomas also attended the meeting.(UNI)
