Kasaragod, Oct 24: Among the five assembly constituencies where bypolls have been held, BJP succeeded to find a second place in Manjeswaram.
United Democratic Front (UDF) has retained its supremacy in the Manjeswaram Assembly where UDF candidate M C Quamarudheen of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) was declared elected after the counting of votes held on Thursday concluded by forenoon.
Mr Quamarudheen defeated his nearest rival Raveesa Tantri Kundar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 7923 votes. The Left Democratic Party (LDF) nominee Sankar Rai could come in third position.
Mr Quamsrudheen secured 65,407 votes, Raveesa Tantri Kundar - 57,484 and Sankar Rai - 38,233. The byelection was necessitated in Manjeswaram following the demise of IUML sitting MLA PB Abdul Razak. (UNI)
