Fines for traffic violations have been brought down in Kerala. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday in the wake of criticism against the recently hiked fines.
Under the amended rules, the fine for helmetless riding or driving without seat belt has been halved to Rs 500. However, the fine for drunken driving would remain at Rs 10,000.
Fines in most cases have been halved and that for overload has come down to Rs 10,000. Fine for use of mobile phones will be Rs 2,000 and crossing speed limits Rs 1,500. Notification for the new fines was expected to be put out soon.
