Pathanamthitta, Oct 17 : The Lord Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala opened for the five-day monthly rituals on Thursday evening.
Though there will not be any temple rituals on Thursday the Ayyappa shrine will remain open till 10pm for the devotees to offer prayers.
The five-day monthly rituals in the month of Thulam will begin with the performing of the Ashtadraya Ganapati homam on Friday morning.
The Sahasrakalasabhishekaom ritual will be performed at the temple prior to the noon puja on the last four days beginning on Saturday.
The Tantri (chief priest) will prepare the kalasom (holy water) in 1,000 copper urns and the Brahmakalasom in a golden vessel on Friday evening for the Sahasrakalasabhishekom ritual to be performed at the temple on Saturday.
Kalabhabhishekom, Padipuja, Pushpabhishekom, Ashtabhishekom and Udayasthamanapuja are the other special rituals to be performed at the temple during the five days, Devaswom Board authorities said.
The temple will be closed after the Athazhapuja on October 22 evening. (UNI)
