Wayanad, Oct 6 : Five youths who were on a fast at Kalpetta since the last 12 days, demanding the withdrawal of the night travel ban through the Bandipur Tiger Reserve on the Kozhikode-Bangalore National Highway-766, have called off on Sunday following assurance from Karnataka Government that it will not press for travel ban during day time too in the Supreme Court which is hearing the case.

Minister for Excise T P Ramakrishnan and Transport Minister A K Sareendran who was in this district promised all support to the people of Wayanad on the issue.

It was about a decade ago that travel on this route was banned during night time, forcing vehicles from Kozhikode side take a deviated route via Iritty, making travel longer and difficult for thousands of vehicles from south Malabar region.
