Kakinada, Oct 6 : The owners of the flats of Bhaskara Estate Apartment complex in Satyaprasanna Nagar area in Gandhinagar located in heart of city here who were evicted by the Municipal Corporation authorities under the pretext of safety as the entire building structure is in a dilapidated condition and might collapse at any time, have threatened to launch an agitation demanding due compensation and speedy rehabilitation.

At a press conference here on Sunday, the flat owners enlisting the support of all parties have demanded immediate arrest of the builder as the structure construction made 13 years ago was sub-standard and defective and the stilt pillars were damaged and developed cracks posing a threat to the lives and properties of the residents of 40 flats.

They alleged that there was a big conspiracy in evicting them hurriedly within 24 hours instead of fortifying the structure by applying new technology engaging the services of experts.

They further charged that the builders’ mafia had planned to construct a shopping mall in place of the apartment as it was located in a strategic business location where the land cost is exorbitant and highly expensive.

Dusarlapudi Ramanaraju, a social activist who is championing the cause of the apartment flat owners has demanded the government to construct a new apartment building and hand it over to the displaced on its own and later recover the entire amount from the builder.

In support of his demand, he has cited the latest judgment of the Supreme Court in a similar case in favour of Maradu apartments displaced in Kerala.

He warned that the apartment flat owners would launch peaceful agitation in form of staging dharnas and relay hunger strikes, besides seeking recourse to law and pleaded for government’s intervention .(UNI)
