Kottayam, Oct 4 : Newly elected MLA from Pala Mani C Kappan on Friday said the allegation by United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Shibu Baby John against him was 'baseless', 'fabricated' and termed it as an election stunt.

Speaking to reporters at Pala, Mr Kappan said "I will take legal action against Shibu". The legislator said he had contacted Dinesh Menon, a Mumbai-based industrialist, who had evinced interest in becoming his partner for buying more land in Meghalaya, apart from the land he (Mani C Kappan) was holding. Mr Menon gave Rs 1.85 crore as advance amount. But the business was not materialised, Mr Kappan said.

Later when an amount of Rs 3.5 crore inclusive of the rate of interest was demanded by Menon, a sum of Rs 25 lakh was returned. A cheque was given for the remaining amount which was bounced. Menon filed a case in a Mumbai court. This was made clear in my affidavit submitted during filing of nomination papers for the byelection to Pala, he said.

Mr Kappan said he had not given any statement to CBI. By involving CPI(M) State Secretary Kodiyeri and his son Binish Kodiyeri in this deal he had some hidden agenda and it clearly was a political conspiracy, Shibu had alleged. These type of baseless allegation by Shibu will not augur well, Mani C Kappan said. (UNI)
