Power and water supply has been disconnected to the Maradu flat complexes which have to be demolished for violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms on orders from the Supreme Court.
On Wednesday morning, officials from Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) disconnected electricity supply to the complexes amidst protest by the flat owners. The Kerala Water Authority has also disconnected its supply to these flats.
This followed the directives to the two entities by the Maradu municipality to sever the connections by September 27. The State Government and the Chief Secretary had drawn flak from the apex court on Monday for failing to adhere to the September 20 deadline by the Court for demolition. They are to submit details of the demolition plan on Friday.
The protest by flat owners when KSEB officials reached there resulted in police forces arrival there.
Snehil Kumar Singh, the officer posted recently to oversee the demolition, is expected to visit Maradu on Thursday.
