Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 24 : Kerala Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Teeka Ram Meena on Tuesday announced that total 896 polling booths will be set up for the bypolls in five assembly constituencies across the state.
The bypolls will be held at Manjeswaram, Ernakulam, Aroor, Konni, Vattiyoorkavu seats on October 21 and the counting will take place on October 24, the CEO told media here. The contestants could submit their nomination papers till September 30, the scrutiny of which will be held on October 1. The final date for withdrawing nominations is on October 3.
He announced, "198 polling booths will be set up in Mancheswaram, 135 in Ernakulam, 183 in Aroor, 212 in Konni, 168 in Vattiyoorkavu." "The latest 'M-3' type voting machines will be used this time in all the five constituencies," he added.
As many as 1,830 voting machines are available for polling purposes. The code of conduct is applicable only to the concerned district where the bypolls will be held.
Out of the 2,14,099 voters in Mancheswaram, 1,06,529 are women voters. In the case of Ernakulam, 78,302 are women, 75,533 men and 3 transgenders.
He said 1,90,144 people will exercise their franchise in Aroor where 96,751 are women. In Konni, as many as 1,03,223 are women and 92,514 are men and 1 transgender. Out of 1,95,602 voters, 1,02,252 are women and 93,348 are men and 2 transgenders in Vattiyoorkavu constituency.(UNI)
