Kodungallur native, woman held in Kochi for suspected terror links

Police on Saturday arrested a person along with a woman, suspecting terrorist links.

Abdul Khader Rahim of Kodungalur in Thrissur district was arrested when he came to the court in Ernakulam this afternoon. A woman accompanying him was also taken into custody.

The arrest is said to be in connection with the alert issued in the backdrop of an intelligence report that a six-member gang of terrorist organisation Lashkar e Toiba landed in Tamil Nadu by sea from Sri Lanka. They are believed to have spread out to different cities. It is suspected that the gang includes a Pakistani and a few Lanka Tamils. There were unconfirmed reports that a Keralite was also in the gang.

Rahim who works in Bahrain came to Kerala two days ago. Details of why he came to the court are yet to be revealed. He was arrested on suspicion that he had links with the terrorist organisation. Rahim is likely to be handed over to Tamil Nadu police.

Tamil Nadu has been on high alert and strict surveillance and patrolling, was on in various parts of Coimbatore for the second day on Saturday. Vehicle checks were intensified on highways connecting the city with Kerala. Baggages were being thoroughly checked at bus stands, railway stations and the airport.
