BDJS leader Thushar Vellappally held in Dubai for cheque bounce case

BDJS leader Thushar Vellappally was arrested in Ajman in UAE by police in connection with a cheque bounce case sent to the Ajman Central Jail on Tuesday evening.

Thushar, son of SNDP leader Vellappally Natesan, was the NDA candidate against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad constituency in the recent Lok Sabha election.

According to reports from Dubai, Thushar was arrested in connection with a dishonoured cheque of 10 million Dirham given by him some 10 years ago. The case was filed two days ago by a Thrissur native Nazil Abdullah, now based in Ajman.

According to those close to Thushar, he was called to Dubai in connection with the matter and during discussion at a hotel in Ajman, police arrested him. The case pertains to a company of Nazil which was a subcontractor of Vellappally Natesan's construction firm Boeing Constructions in Ajman. But since the venture went into a big loss, Natesan sold it off 10 years ago. But Nazil claimed that he had been given a cheque for 10 million dirhams with no date on it and was now dishonoured.

The matter was said to have been taken up by lawyers in Dubai who say Thushar should get bail soon and they also questioned the validity of a cheque given 10 years ago. However, the matter has put the BDJS, an ally of the BJP-led NDA and also Vellappally Natesan who was the owner of the company then, in distress.

Incidentally, two years ago, CPIM politburo member and party Kerala state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's son Binoy Kodiyeri was arrested in Dubai in connection with a financial fraud case which was settled very soon. However, he is now an accused in a rape case that has its genesis in Dubai.
