All the main accused in the honour killing leading to the death of a youth Kevin Joseph more than a year ago have been found guilty. The Kottayam Principal Sessions Court on Thursday acquitted Kevin's father-in-law and his wife Neenu’s father Chacko, though Neenu's brother Shanu Chacko, was pronounced guilty. Shanu Chacko is also the first accused in the case. The sentence will be pronounced on Saturday.
There were 14 persons in the accused list of which 10 were found guilty. Among those in the accused list nine are in jail and five on bail. Kevin (23) was abducted on May 27, 2018, by a gang allegedly hired by his wife's family. His body was later found in a river in Kollam district a day later. Kerala High Court had directed the Sessions Court to complete the trial in six months.
However, the trial started on April 26 and was completed in 90 days, three months before the deadline. Kevin's wife had submitted during trial that he was abducted and killed by her relatives.
