Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 18: Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs V Muralidharan on Saturday said Sivagiri would be developed as a world famous spiritual pilgrimage centre.
Talking to newsmen after visiting Sivagiri Mutt at Varkala, the Union Minister said he reviewed various development projects, including Swadesh Darshan taking place in Sivagiri, and assured more Central aid for the overall developments.
Railway authority has been directed to take necessary steps for solving issues related to the region's development, he added. The Union Minister was received at Sivagiri Ashram by Sri Narayana Dharma Sangam Trust Treasurer Sri Saradananda Swami.
Later, the Union Minister unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Thonnakkal Sai Gramam to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the Centre constituted the Ministry of Jalsakthi by taking inspiration from Gandhian principles.
