Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 16 : Bringing some relief, heavy rain receded in most parts of Kerala on Friday. Meanwhile, the death toll in torrential rains, floods and landslides has risen to 111 in Kerala on Friday even as 31 people are still missing in various districts in the state since August 8. As many as 1,47,286 people from 46,450 families are now staying in 891 relief camps in various districts. However, several returned to their homes after water receded at their places, official sources said.
Sources said, 6 people died in Alappuzha district, 2 each in Kottayam and Kasaragod districts, 5 in Idukki, 9 in Thrissur, 48 in Malappuram, 17 in Kozhikode, 12 in Wayanad, 1 in Palakkad and 9 in Kannur districts till this afternoon. As many as 31 people -- 23 from Malappuram and 7 from Wayanad and 1 from Kottayam -- are still missing, it added. Sources said 1,116 houses were fully damaged and 11,935 houses have been partially damaged in the floods.UNI
