Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 15 : The death toll in rain-related incidents rose to 104 in Kerala on Thursday and 36 people were still missing following torrential rains, floods and landslides in various districts since August 8 in the state.
As many as 1,75,373 people from 54,799 families were now staying in 1,057 relief camps in various districts, even as several returned to their homes after water receding in their places, official sources said. According to them, four people died in Alappuzha district, two each in Kottayam and Kasaragod districts, five in Idukki, nine in Thrissur, 43 in Malappuram, 17 in Kozhikode, 12 in Wayanad, one in Palakkad and nine in Kannur districts.
As many as 36 people, 28 from Malappuram, seven from Wayanad and one from Kottayam were still missing, the sources further said. They revealed that 1,116 houses were fully damaged and 11,901 houses have been partially damaged in the floods.
Fake news: Five arrested
Meanwhile, five persons were arrested and 32 cases have been registered against those who circulated fake news creating panic among people through social media on the flood situation in the State till this day. A detailed probe was being initiated by the Cyber Cell, the Cyberdom and the High-tech Cell in this regard. (UNI)
