Death toll rises to 76, about 2,87,585 people shifted to 1,654 relief camps in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 12 : The death toll in rain-related incidents rose to 76 in Kerala on Monday as over 2,87,585 people from 83,274 families were shifted to 1,654 relief centres in the State so far.

According to the official sources, 2 people died in Thiruvananthapuram, 2 in Alappuzha, 1 in Kottayam, 5 in Idukki, 4 in Thrissur, 24 in Malappuram, 17 in Kozhikode, 12 in Wayanad, 8 in Kannur and 1 in Kasaragod for the last four days of torrential downpour.

As many as 58 people -- 50 from Malappuram and 7 from Wayanad and 1 from Kottayam -- are still missing, it added.

Sources said 286 houses were fully damaged and 2966 houses have been partially damaged in the floods.

The State-owned KSRTC restored many bus services and the Railway also took several measures to restore train services as traffic was disrupted due to floods and landslides in many places.

Meanwhile, a holiday has been declared for all the schools, colleges and professional colleges in Kozhikode and Thrissur districts on Tuesday, sources said.
Orange alert has been issued in Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts on August 12 and Yellow alert was issued in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur districts on August 13.(UNI)
