Malappuram, Aug 9 : Tens of people are feared to be killed underneath the soil due to heavy landslide in Bothanam near Nilambur on Friday morning. Forty houses were destroyed in the landslide. Official sources said there had been three landslides - one heavy and two minor - in different places near Nilambur near here. Tens of people are feared to be killed underneath the soil that caved in after the Muthappan hill split into two. Another landslip is reported at Pathar near Nilambur.

A few persons are reported missing and rescue operations are progressing. Yet another landslide, again a minor one, occurred at Kottakunnu in Malappuram. Six people are reported missing after the incident in which a couple of houses were destroyed. Four members of a family were killed when their house caved in the furious rain at Edavanna near here this morning. Some 30 houses were destroyed or damaged as the water in Kavalapara canal overflowed due to uninterrupted heavy rain.UNI
