Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 28: Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja on Sunday condemned the act of Youth Congress activists who conducted a purification ritual by sprinkling cow dung water at a venue where CPI MLA Geetha Gopinath staged a protest.
Terming the act as shocking, the Minister said the Youth Congress conducted the purification right to insult the Dalit MLA representing Nattika Assembly seat. Earlier, the MLA staged a protest at the premises of Cherpu Mini Civil Station in her constituency demanding the maintenance of Cherpu-Thriprayar road, where a two-wheeler passenger sustained serious injuries, following a road accident, due to the poor condition of the road.
Later, she again staged a protest in front of the PWD office at the Cherpu Mini Civil Station seeking their immediate intervention.
Following which, the Youth Congress activists conducted the purification rituals at the Mini Civil Station premises alleging that the MLA was not sincere in solving the grievances of the people in her constituency.
But, the MLA alleged that she was targeted because she was a Dalit and the mode of protest was an insult on her caste. (Uni)
