Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 21: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar seeking his intervention to ensure the safety of four Keralites, the crew of the British Oil Tanker seized by Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
In his letter to the External Affairs Minister, the Chief Minister said "I have learnt with great concern from media reports that crew of the British Oil Tanker seized by Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the strait of Hormuz comprise Indians, including four persons from Kerala."
"I also understand that your ministry is making interventions in this matter. I request that all possible efforts to ensure the safety of the crew be made and the relevant details of persons may be shared with the State Government so that their family members can be contacted and we can be of help in their hour of crisis."
"I also inform you that some persons from Kerala are part of the crew of the Iranian ship seized by the British. One of them Ajmal Sadiq of Vandoor Malappuram district was able to contact his family yesterday. He is reported to have stated that they were taken into custody on July four."
"I am given to understand that there are some more persons from Kerala among the crew of this ship. Information regarding the details of persons, who are part of this ship may kindly be shared with the State Government so that their family members can be contacted and we can be of help in their hour of crisis. I request that kind of intervention from your side may be made to ensure their safety and travel back," he said in the letter. UNI
