Two key accused in the University College violence where SFI activists stabbed a student three days ago were taken into custody in Thiruvananthapuram early on Monday.
Police, who on Sunday issued lookout notices, said Sivaranjith and Naseem were taken into custody from a house at Kesavadasapuram in the city.
Incidentally, a raid on the house of Sivaranjith late on Sunday unearthed bundles of unwritten answer sheets for university exams, supposedly for malpractices and an official seal. He is also on the top list of the PSC selected for Civil Police Officers.
Earlier, four others, Advaith, Aadil Muhammad, Aaromal and Ijab, were arrested on Sunday evening. While there were reports that they had surrendered, police claimed that they were nabbed from the railway station from where they had planned to flee the State.
Akhil, a student of the college, was pulled up by SFI leaders for singing loudly on the campus. Following an altercation, he was stabbed. This sent shock waves across the campus and even Left-leaning students condemned the violence. An embarrassed SFI state leadership disbanded its college unit and CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan met the victim in hospital and, publicly condemning the incident, said all support would be lent to victim Akhil.
