Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 30 : Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday urged the Indian embassy in Kazakhstan to take urgent steps to ensure security for nearly 150 Indians including Malayalees standard at Tengiz oil field.
The Chief Minister directed NORKA Roots in Kerala to contact with the embassy officials following media reports that hundreds of workers at the oil field in western Kazakhstan were injured when a brawl broke out between foreign and local employees.NORKA Roots, the public sector undertaking of the department of non-resident Keralites affairs, contacted the embassy and sought the details of people stranded at Tengiz.
The fight at the oil field was escalated after a foreign worker shared a photograph which was considered offensive by the local Kazakh workers. Several foreign employees were injured in the local conflict.(UNI)
