Former Congress leader AP Abdullakkutty and twice a CPIM parliament member, finally joined the BJP on Wednesday.
Abdullakutty, who had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah two days ago, received membership from BJP working president JP Nadda in the presence of Union Minister V Muraleedharan. Rajeev Chandrasekhar MP was also present.
Abdullakutty had been expelled from CPM for his pro-Modi remarks and later joined Congress to be made an MLA. In his latest, he came out with a Facebook post hailing Modi on his decisive win in the recent Lok Sabha elections. This led to his ouster from Congress hardly a month ago.
On joining BJP, he told media persons that he had now become a "national Muslim". "My aim is to fill the gap between BJP and Muslims," he claimed.
