Probe team sees no proof against local body chief in expat’s suicide

Pennews

The special team investigating the suicide of expat industrialist Sajan Parayil at Anthoor in Kannur has, like the State Government, blamed officials for lapses and given the municipal chairperson a clean chit.

The probe team said that despite the engineer recommending licence for the building, the secretary decided not to give the sanction. Also, there was no material to show municipal chairperson PK Shyamala's hand in the delay.

The special team also visited Sajan's house. A diary found there had little proof of anyone being connected with the suicide. Police also recorded statements of Sajan's wife and other relatives.

In a separate move, Anthoor municipal secretary Jitheesh, who is under suspension, filed an anticipatory bail plea in the High Court, fearing possible arrest.
