All eyes are on P Jayarajan, former Kannur district committee secretary, who has promised to reveal all that happened at the Anthoor municipal corporation whose denial of building permit for the Rs 15-crore convention centre at Bakkalam in the district led to the suicide of expat entrepreneur Sajan Parayil last Saturday. He told mediapersons that he would give details of all that happened in connection with what led to the suicide, and answer questions that the "media might not ask".
Jayarajan is believed to have intervened over undue delay in granting licence by the municipal authorities to Sajan, a party sympathiser. However, Sajan's widow had said that municipal chairperson PK Shyamala, who today submitted her resignation, had told her late husband that she would want to know how he would get the licence when she was in that post.
Jayarajan has been reportedly a victim of party power struggle in Kannur among the three Jayarajans. The party strongman lost the recent Lok Sabha polls from Vadakara constituency where he was put up as the candidate by being replaced immediately as district secretary by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's political secretary MV Jayarajan. The third , EP Jayarajan is a minister.
Shyamala is the wife of party central committee member MV Govindan. She is said to have taken offence to P Jayarajan taking up the entrepreneur's cause.
Jayarajan was among the first to visit the entrepreneur's house on learning about the suicide. He also embarrassed the party by visiting party rebel COT Nasir after an attack allegedly by party men. The arrest of one of the associates of Thalalssery legislator AN Shamsheer has put the party in further trouble.
