The hunt for CPM politburo member and Kerala state party secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's elusive son Binoy Kodiyeri, accused in a rape and sexual assault case, continues. Mumbai police, which searched for him in his hometown of Kannur yesterday and moved to Thiruvananthapuram today, is set to issue a lookout notice, fearing that he may leave the country.
Separately, Binoy is learnt to have moved the sessions court in Mumbai for anticipatory bail as a notice was given yesterday asking him to present at Oshiwara police station in three days.
The search for Binoy is in the backdrop of a complaint by a former dance bar girl, now settled in Mumbai, that she was raped and sexually assaulted by Binoy on the promise that he would marry her. She has an eight+year-old child in the relationship. Binoy shifted her to Mumbai and used to send her money regularly till 2015. When she learnt in 2018 that Binoy was already married, she raised the matter with him and received threats.
The Mumbai police team in Kerala has sought the help of the local police to take Binoy into custody. It searched two houses in Kannur on the basis of address records. One of the addresses provided by the complainant is the party flat, part of AKG Centre in Thiruvananthapuram. Police are to make enquiries there too.
A day after news of the rape became public and it was learnt that Mumbai police would arrive in Kerala, Binoy went missing. His mobile phone too remains switched off.Surprisingly, neither Balakrishnan nor his party has uttered a word in this matter so far.
