CPM politburo member and Kerala state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's son Binoy Kodiyeri, facing rape and sexual assault charges, has reportedly gone into hiding fearing arrest.
On a case registered by Mumbai police based on a complaint of a woman who was a dance bar girl in Dubai, police landed in Kannur. They went to two houses based on addresses furnished but learnt that he had gone 'underground'. Binoy is learnt to be trying to seek anticipatory bail.
The Mumbai team, who unsuccessfully tried to contact him over the phone, issued notices at the residences asking him to be present himself at the Mumbai station in three days.
The team came to Kannur on Wednesday and had talks with their counterparts here before moving to his residence. According to sources, the team came not just for investigation but also to arrest Binoy.
An FIR was registered at Oshiwara police station in Mumbai on the complaint of the woman. She said Binoy had cheated her on promise of marriage and that she has an eight-year-old child in the relationship which developed in Dubai. Binoy was a frequent visitor to the bar and used to shower money on her.
He moved the woman and child to Mumbai in 2010 and used to regularly send her money and also visit them. But he stopped sending money from 2015 and in 2018 when she learnt that he was already married, she turned furious and contacted him. However, what she got was abuse and death threat calls.
Binoy had alleged that the woman was trying to blackmail him and all charges were baseless.
