Foul play behind Balabhaskar’s death suspected

The arrests in connection with a gold smuggling racket at Thiruvananthapuram airport has given new leads to the death of violin maestro Balabhaskar in a car accident under suspicious circumstances.

Those who are arrested in connection with the gold smuggling include Balabhaskar's manager Prakash Thampi and an assistant Vishnu.

Balabhaskar's parents had suspected foul play behind the accidental death on September 25, 2018. The car accident occurred in Thiruvananthapuram. His relatives too had suspicions in the accident as there were contradictory statements on who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident- whether the violinist or his driver.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) is to record the statement of Balabhaskar's father KC Unni who had raised the issue of links his son’s manager had with gold smuggling.

Prakash Thampi was a close acquaintance of Balabhaskar and programme coordinator of his music troupe. Sound recordist Sobi George, known as Kalabhavan Sobi, said he had passed by the accident site at Pallippuram a few minutes before the mishap and on hindsight sees suspicious movements in the area.

A Facebook post by one of his relatives Priya Venugopal says it has been revealed now who are the suspects in the case. She asks if someone was responsible for Balabhaskar's sudden heart attack when he was recovering.

His sister had then said a woman was seen in the hospital during day time and had left the place at night and the relatives could not trace the violinist's Aadhaar card for submission before postmortem. It was this woman's son who was Balabhaskar's driver. The post says Balabhaskar's friends tried to keep him away from his relatives.

Priya wanted to know why people tried to prove that Balabhaskar was behind the wheels at the time of the accident.
