Kasaragod, Jun 1: The District Health Authorities have confirmed H1N1 flu in three men and a woman in this district of Kerala on Friday.
The authorities said the disease has been found in three inmates of the Government Old Age Home for Men and a woman employee there.
Also known as Swine Flu, the disease has been found in people having contact with pigs. However, the situation has been changed for the last few years with the H1N1 flu being inflicted on people having no contact with pigs.
In the spring of 2009, scientists recognized a particular strain of flu virus known as H1N1. Because so many people around the world got sick that year, the World Health Organization declared the flu caused by H1N1 a global pandemic.
The health authorities have issued an alert and has geared up by taking measures to check the spread of the dreaded disease to fellow-inmates and the places around.
