Another accused in Periya twin murder nabbed at Mangaluru airport


Close on the heels of the arrest of two CPM activists in the Periya twin murder case, where two Youth Congress activists were hacked to death, police on Thursday morning nabbed another accused from Manguluru airport.

Pakkam native Subeesh was a porter in Uduma area. While he stayed back in his native place for a few days after the murder of Youth Congress activists Sarath Lal and Kripesh at Periya near Uduma on February 17, he fled the scene when investigation was intensified. He had gone abroad, but was nabbed on Thursday morning nabbed on his return.

He is believed to be part of the murder gang and police had sought the support of Interpol to get him back.

With Subeesh’s arrest, all the 14 main accused in the case are in custody now.

Earlier on Tuesday, crime branch arrested two CPM local leaders - area secretary KM Manikandan and Periya local committee secretary Balakrishnan. They were charged with destroying evidence and helping the accused to escape.

The murderers, after committing the crime, reached Velutholi near Uduma and contacted Manikandan who along with Balakrishnan helped the accused stay under cover, hide the weapons and destroy evidence.

With the High Court set to consider a plea on May 25 for a CBI inquiry into the murder, the crime branch is in the final stages of readying the chargesheets and submitting  them before that.
