Thiruvananthapuram, May 14: In the wake of a bank issuing notice for attachment of their house, a mother and her daughter set themselves ablaze after pouring kerosene on them at Marayimuttam near Neyyattinkara, on Tuesday.
Police said though the mother and the daughter were rushed to the Medical College Hospital, the 19-year-old Vaishnavi died on the way.However, the 40-year-old Lekha suffered 90 per cent burns and said to be in critical condition, hospital sources said. The incident occurred when the bank authorities informed them about the attachment of the house earlier in the day.
According to Chandran, husband of Lekha, they had taken the bank loan five years back. They repaid Rs eight lakh against the loan amount of Rs five lakh, he added. The bank authorities issued a notice in the wake of default of the loan amount, causing severe mental stress for the family. (UNI)
