Putting an end to the deadlock, Thrissur District Collector TV Anupama granted conditional nod to parade popular tusker Thechikottukavu Ramachandran for the ceremony heralding Thrissur Pooram on Sunday.
According to the order, the elephant will be brought to the temple for an hour from 9.30 am on Sunday. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Pooram organising committee Anupama summoned after the medical board found the tusker fit and healthy.
The elephant can be paraded on the temple premises with four mahouts around it. Immediately after the ritual, the elephant will have to be taken out from the temple.
Barricades will have to be placed 10 m from where the elephant is taken for ritual. The ritual of heralding the pooram (vilambaram) will see Thechikottukavu Ramachandran open the temple doors in south side. It will carry the idol of Neythalakavu Bhagavathi while opening the temple doors. It has been practice to parade the elephant from Neythalakavu temple with the idol to Vadakumnathan temple. But with the ban, the parade will not take place. Instead, it will be carried in a vehicle for the ritual on the temple premises and taken back.
