Kerala High Court on Friday dealt a severe blow to LDF legislator PV Anvar, also the front's candidate for the Lok Sabha poll in Ponnani, ordering immediate demolition of the check-dam built at the Cheenkannipali water theme park on Kakkadampoyil hills.
Earlier, a similar order was passed 10 months ago and the matter had become a hot topic of debate during the peak of the August 2018 floods, posing a serious threat to several lives. The court pointed its resentment in the MLA not obeying its order to demolish the dam and said that this time too if he failed to obey the order, he was have to face serious repercussions. He was given time till May 22 when the court would ascertain whether he had followed the orders.
The order was passed, following the complainant approaching the court as the dam was intact and the order for demolition issued 10 months was yet to be obeyed.
When Anvar's counsel told the court that he was a candidate in the Lok Sabha elections and legal actions might be avoided during the period, the court shot back, saying that the court's primary concern was the life and properties of the people and the order had to be obeyed.
