Veteran Kerala Congress leader KM Mani no more


Kerala Congress (M) leader and former minister KM Mani who has the distinction of being the longest serving Minister in Kerala died on Tuesday evening at a private hospital in Kochi. He was 86 and had been under treatment for respiratory ailments.

His condition was turned critical on Tuesday evening and end came conditions around 5 pm. The MLA from Pala had been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for 17 years and was hospitalised frequently for chest infection.

Among the founders of the breakaway group Kerala Congress which has had a distinction of splitting into groups on the whims and fancies of its leaders. Shrewd and astute politician Mani has presented Kerala budget 13 times, the highest by a minister and has also handled revenue, irrigation, law and home portfolios.

He had seen his political popularity graph come down after the bar scam and also attempts to promote his son Jose K Mani, Rajya Sabha member, to take over the party reins.

Mani leaves wife Kuttiyamma, son Jose K Mani(Rajya Sabha MP) and daughters Elsa, Annie, Sally, Tessy and Smitha.
