Thiruvananthapuram : Communist Party of India(Marxist) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat stirred up a controversy by launching a direct attack against Indian Union Muslim League(IUML) by terming it as a party having no secular credentials. Brinda’s attack against Muslim League gathered attention among political circles, in the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath calling it a virus.
At meet the press programme organised by the Kerala Union of Working Journalists district committee ahead of parliamentary elections, Brinda Karat said “ a party that mixes religion with politics in its fundamental platform can not claim secular credentials’. To a question, whether the CPIM is sharing the same view regarding the IUML’s secular credentials, Brinda reiterated that the left has always maintained religion and politics should not be mixed with each other. In order to escape from the people’s anger against the misrule of five years such as demonetisation, worst implementation of GST etc., the BJP is relying on its communal agenda.
The left has been consistent in fighting for secular values. The CPIM leader said that they would consider Rahul Gandhi as just one among the many UDF candidates that LDF is fighting and LDF would win all the 20 Lok Sabha seats from Kerala .
